3 Day LGBT Family Vacation Itinerary in Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Meg Cale

When LGBT folks travel, it can be extremely difficult to find accurate information. That – in a nutshell – is why this blog exists. But when you’re searching for LGBT travel information that’s family friendly – it’s a whole unique set of challenges. Since we’ve moved to Mexico, we’ve been exploring some of our favorite towns around the country.

Which is why we jumped at the chance to work with Puerto Vallarta tourism on this post. Puerto Vallarta is the perfect family-friendly destination but it’s also one of the most LGBT friendly destinations in Mexico. With so much to do and see, a vacation in this vibrant and inviting region in Mexico will be fun for your whole family.

Day 1 of LGBT Family Vacation in Puerto Vallarta

Morning

The family-friendly Crown Paradise in Puerto Vallarta is very kid friendly and comes with your food, drinks, and nonmotorized water activities for the week. They have an adorable pirate ship shaped pool at the beach club for the little ones. For the tiny tots, they have a BabyCenter with full-time staff for the toddlers, and even a teens hangout spot. Spend your first morning in Puerto Vallarta exploring the resort, swimming in the pool and checking out all the amenities.

Afternoon

After you’ve enjoyed the morning at your resort head down to the Malecon Boardwalk. The area is packed with shops, restaurants and street performers. There are tons of things to see and do in the area. This area has a lot of free or very cost effective entertainment. Your kids will love the giant sand sculptures and the playful climbing structures around the area. Check out the street performers singing, dancing, and doing stunts for the crowds. If the kids need a little more excitement book the El Malecon Boardwalk Bike Ride and explore pier with a bit more high energy.

Day 2 of LGBT Family Vacation in Puerto Vallarta

Morning

For a morning adventure head down to Marina Vallarta. Enjoy delicious breakfast tacos at one of the many restaurants with dockside views. After breakfast, shop for handcrafted souvenirs along the marina and make your way to Vallarta Adventures for one of their many tours and activities. For older kids, the Extreme Zipline Adventure might fit the bill. Enjoy thrilling rides on a series of zip lines, including Mexico’s longest, drive off-road Polaris cars through the jungle, rappel from the treetops and much more. For the little ones, the Marina has a beach and nice pool and lots of entertainment for kids.

Afternoon

One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen was the release of baby sea turtles while I was exploring a Mexican beach. Turtle season is summer through late fall. Kids will love to help take care of the tiny hatchlings and release them to their ocean homes. During release season, there are turtles making their way down the beach on a nightly basis. Book a class with Sea Turtle Camp and learn about the baby turtles before setting off to do the nightly release with their knowledgeable staff.

Day 3 of LGBT Family Travel in Puerto Vallarta

All Day

Yes, The Pirate Ship tour is very touristy, but kids will have tons of fun on this high-seas adventure with Pirate Ship Vallarta. This all-day cruise features an exciting pirate show with acrobatics, sword fighting and cannons blasting! Activities for the whole family include dancing, games, contests, water activities like kayaking, banana boats, snorkeling, beach volleyball and buried treasure hunts. Best part is that the food and drinks for the day are included.
